Privacy Policy

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (“CHCI,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) committed to protecting the privacy of our users at https://chci.org/ and any website owned, operated, licensed or controlled by us, including the chci.org, which provides applicants to CHCI programs the platform to complete their program interviews (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy describes how we gather and use information about visitors to our Site (“Visitors”).  This Privacy Policy applies solely to the information that we collect through the Site.  This Privacy Policy does not address personal information that you provide to us in other contexts (e.g., through a business relationship not handled through the Site).

The terms used in this Privacy Policy have the same meanings as in our Terms and Conditions, which is accessible at https://chci.org/, unless otherwise defined in this Privacy Policy.

ACCEPTANCE OF PRIVACY POLICY

By using the Site, you signify your acceptance of this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy, please do not use the Site. Your continued use of the Site following the posting of changes to these terms will mean that you accept those changes.

COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

CHCI collects your Personal Information through the Site when you choose to provide such information, such as when you request information about our programs or services by submitting a form through the Site. “Personal Information” means information that identifies you or could reasonably be used to identify you. Examples of Personal Information include your name, phone number, and email address.

HOW WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

If you choose to provide us with Personal Information, we will use that Personal Information to (i) identify you, (ii) provide and improve the Service, (iii) send information to you, and (iv) notify you of changes to this Privacy Policy. If you do not wish to receive emails or other communications from us, you may contact us at info@chci.org and request that your Personal Information be removed from our list.

We will only use your Personal Information when the law allows us to. Most commonly, we will use your Personal Information in the following circumstances:

  • Where it is necessary for our legitimate interests (or those of a third party) and your interests and fundamental rights do not override those interests.
  • Where we need to comply with a legal obligation.

Note that we may process your Personal Information for more than one lawful ground depending on the specific purpose for which we are using your data.

DISCLOSURE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION TO OUTSIDE PARTIES

Unless you expressly give us permission in writing to do so, CHCI will not sell, rent, license, or trade your Personal Information other than as specified in this Privacy Policy.

Disclosures to Third Parties Assisting In Our Operations.  CHCI may share your Personal Information under confidentiality agreements with other companies that work with, or on behalf of, CHCI to perform the following tasks assigned to them on our behalf:

  • To facilitate our Service;
  • To provide the Service on our behalf;
  • To perform Service-related services; or
  • To assist us in analyzing how our Service is used.

These companies may use your Personal Information to assist CHCI in its operations.  However, these companies do not have any independent right to share this information.

Disclosures Under Special Circumstances CHCI may provide information about you to respond to subpoenas, court orders, legal process or governmental regulations, or to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal claims.  We believe it is necessary to share information in order to investigate, prevent or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the physical safety of any person, or as otherwise required by law.

AUTOMATICALLY COLLECTED INFORMATION AND ANONYMOUS INFORMATION

Each time a user comes to the site, CHCI collects some information to improve the overall quality of the visitor’s online experience.

Web Server Logs and IP Addresses.  When you use our Service, CHCI may collect information that your browser sends to us that is called Log Data. This Log Data includes information such as your computer’s Internet Protocol (“IP”) address, browser version, pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, and other statistics. An internet protocol (“IP”) address is a number that automatically identifies the computer or device you have used to access the internet. The IP address enables our server to send you the web pages that you want to visit, and it may disclose the server owned by your internet service provider. CHCI may use IP addresses and other Log Data to conduct site analyses and performance reviews and to administer the site.

Cookies and Web Beacons.  You can set your browser to refuse all or some browser cookies, or to alert you when websites set or access cookies. If you disable or refuse cookies, please note that some parts of this website may become inaccessible or not function properly. Cookies are pieces of information that a website transfers to a user’s computer for purposes of storing information about a user’s preferences.  Cookies in and of themselves do not personally identify users, although they do identify a user’s computer.  Many websites use cookies as a standard practice to provide useful features when a user visits the website and most web browsers are set up to accept cookies.

CHCI uses cookies to improve your online experience when visiting the Site, such as to compile aggregate data about site traffic and site interactionInformation that we collect through cookies includes (i) the name and version of the operating system on the Visitor’s computer, (ii) the name and version of the Visitor’s browser, (iii) which page on the Site the Visitor is currently reading, as well as clicks and time spent on a particular page, (iv) if the Visitor was sent to the current page by some other page on the web, the universal resource locator (“URL”) of the referring web page, and (v) geolocation of the Visitor’s computer or device.

SECURITY

The security of your data is very important to CHCI. We have implemented appropriate security measures preventing your Personal Information from being accidentally lost, used or accessed in an unauthorized way, altered or disclosed. However, you should know that no web site operator, including CHCI, can fully eliminate security risks associated with Personal Information. While CHCI has endeavored to create a secure and reliable website for users, the confidentiality of any communication or material transmitted to/from the Site or via e-mail cannot be guaranteed.

We have put in place procedures to deal with any suspected Personal Information breach and will notify you and any applicable regulator of a breach where we are legally required to do so.

LINKS TO OTHER SITES

The Site may contain links to other websites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that site. Note that these external sites are not operated by us. Please be aware that CHCI is not responsible for the privacy practices of such other websites. Therefore, we strongly advise you to review the Privacy Policy of these websites. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.

RESPONSE TO “DO NOT TRACK” SIGNALS

Some internet browsers include the ability to transmit “Do Not Track” signals.  Since uniform standards for “Do Not Track” signals have not yet been adopted, CHCI does not process or respond to “do not track” signals. 

CHILDREN’S PRIVACY

Under Age 13

CHCI understands the importance of protecting children’s privacy in the interactive online world. The Site is not designed for, or intentionally targeted at, children under 13 years of age. It is not our policy to intentionally collect or maintain information about anyone under the age of 13.  No one under the age of 13 should submit any Personal Information to CHCI or the Site. In the case we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we immediately delete this from our servers. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so that we will be able to do necessary actions.

Under Age 18

Minors under 18 years of age may have the Personal Information that they have provided to CHCI through the Site deleted by sending an email to info@chci.org requesting deletion.  Please note that, while we make reasonable efforts to comply with such requests, deletion of your personal information does not ensure complete and comprehensive removal of that data from all systems.

CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY

This Privacy Policy may be revised from time to time as we add new features and services, as laws change, and as industry privacy and security best practices evolve.  We display an effective date on the policy in the upper right corner of this Privacy Policy so that it will be easier for you to know when there has been a change.  If we make any change to this Privacy Policy regarding use or disclosure of Personal Information, we will provide advance notice on the Site.  Small changes or changes that do not significantly affect individual privacy interests may be made at any time and without prior notice.
